Day 8 highlights

Non molte foto oggi, ma ho visto panorami splendidi guidando attraverso il sud della Serbia ed entranfo di nuovo in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Avrei fovuto essere a Spalato in serata per l'imbarco, ma un vongine chiuso mi ha fatto fare troppi chilometri in piú. Mi sono fermato a Sarajevo per la.notte.

Not so much photos today, but wonderful places driving through the south of Serbia, and getting in Bosnia-Herzegovina again. I should be to Split port this evening, but a road-end instead of a borderline makes me ride too much. So I stopped in Sarajevo for the night.

Oggi giorno di riposo a Veliko Tarnovo (BG). Si fa il bucato, si rimedia ai piccoli danni e si fa i turisti.

Rest day in Veliko Tarnovo (BG). Washing clothes, fix little problems and walking as turist.

Oggi 2h 30' perse in un sibgle track sul fianco della montagna, sabbioso e scivoloso. La moto ê scivolata due volte giú  A piedi sono andato a vedere. 20 mt e poi nuovamente sottobosco. Ma non sapevo se ci fossero altri tratti come quello. Era giâ tardi, senza più acqua. Sceso al primo villaggio e proseguito fino a Veliko Tarnovo per asfalto. Domani giorno di riposo qui.

Today 2h 30' in difficulties in a single track of only 100mt. Sandy. The motorbike falls twice down the hill. Seen by feet the next 20mt, again sure in the forest. Per questo Raid cercherò di condividere la mia posizione GPS quotidianamente. Ogni ora, durante viaggio, una mappa che verrà condivisa sulla parte superiore di questo blog vi mostrerà la mia posizione.
L'unico limite di questo metodo di monitoraggio sarà l'assenza della linea telefonica.
Fate attenzione: linea telefonica, non dati internet.
Questo è possibile utilizzando due strumenti:

Il sito Youposition.it

e l'app Gps2Sms per Android.

Registrati con nome utente e passoword su Youposition.it, e crea la tua mappa di viaggio nella pagina del tuo profilo.
Poi, con Gps2Sms è possibile inviare automaticamente un messaggio con la latitudine e longitudine in un tempo compreso tra 2 e 60 minuti.
Questa applicazione, a differenza di altre simili, anche se richiede un pagamento di 1,50 € per l'acquisto, è leggera e consente di impostare tutti i parametri dell' SMS, in modo da poter seguire lo standard richiesto dal Youposition: [LAT]$[LON]$[DT] = latitudine $ longitudine $ testo (ho impostato nel testo l'opzione [DT], che significa data-ora).
È possibile condividere la mappa nel tuo blog, nella tua pagina web o profilo facebook. O, se si preferisce mantenere alto il livello della privacy, condividere l'indirizzo web della mappa con i tuoi amici.
Gps2Sms cercherà di connettersi ai satelliti GPS per 4 minuti, poi passerá in modalità stanby fino al prossimo intervallo di tempo preventivamente settato.
È anche possibile impostare il numero di tentativi di invio dell'SMS in caso di assenza di linea telefonica (ovviamente con un telefono satellitare si puó facilmente risolvere il problema di connessione alla linea telefonica).
Sono disponibili anche alcuni avvisi e altre impostazioni.
È anche possibile inviare SMS in modalità manuale.
La App è solo in inglese e portoghese.

Testeró questo metodo economico di auto-monitoraggio durante il Raid Balcani2016. Restate conness i a questo blog, scoprite se questo metodo funziona bene, e seguite il mio viaggio attraverso i Balcani.
Balcani2016 avrà inizio il 5 settembre.

For this Raid I'll try to share my daily gps position. Each hour, during travelling, a map, that will be shared on the top of this blog, will show my real position.
The only limit to this tracking method will be the no-line phone service.
I mean simple phone line, not internet datas.
That's possible using two instruments:
Web site Youposition.it and Gps2Sms Android app.

Register with username and passoword on Youposition.it, and create your travel-map in your profile page.
Then with Gps2Sms you can send a message with latitude and longitude in a range time between 2 and 60 minutes.
This app, differently from others similar, even if requests a payment of 1,50€ to buy it, is "light" and allows you to set all parameters of SMS, so you can follow the standard message requested by Youposition: [LAT]$[LON]$[DT] = latitude$longitude$text  (I set in text [DT] option, that means date-time).
Than share your map in your blog, your web page or facebook. Or, if you prefer keeping high your privacy-level, share the web-address of your map with your followers (you can solve connection problems with satellite phone).
Gps2Sms will try to connect to gps satellites for 4 minutes, than will set itself in stanby mode till the next setted-time.
You can also set number of re-try connection to the phone line, in case of no-line answer.
Alerts and other settings are available too.
You can also send SMS in manual mode.
This App is only in English and Portuguese language.

I'll test this economic method of auto-self-tracking during Balcani2016 Raid. Stay connected to this blog, disciver if it works fine, and follow my position.
Balcani 2016 will start on 5th of september.

Per chi desidera viaggiare in offroad con un peso contenuto, le borse morbide sono la scelta migliore; sia per la leggerezza, sia per modulabilità e adattabilità.

For those who want to travel in off-road with a lightweight, soft bags are the best choice; whether for the lightness, both for scalability and adaptability.

Rispetto alle valigie rigide presentano l'inconveniente di lasciar più esposto il proprio bagaglio ad eventuali malintenzionati (problema facilmente risolvibile con delle reti in acciaio vedi: qui ), mentre non presentano l'inconveninte di rotture a telaietti o valigie stesse durante la guida in offroad o a seguito di caduta. 

Potendo essere installate sulla moto senza ausilio di barre laterali, riducono inoltre la sagoma d'ingombro, agevolando i passaggi in punti stretti.

Nella mia esperienza ho verificato che spesso le borse da MountainBike o zainetti di altro tipo risultano più pratiche e robuste di quelle apposite per l'utilizzo motocilistico da strada (non ho ancora avuto occasione di provare prodotti tipo saddlebags o borse dpecifiche per impiego offroad).

Questo tipo di borse presenta però il problema di non avere alcun tipo di protezione dal calore del terminale di scarico, dove necessariamente vanno a posizionarsi.

Vediamo quindi come ovviare a questo inconveniente nella maniera più economica possibile.

Compared to hard panniers they have the disadvantage of leaving your luggage more exposed to potential attack of thieves (problem easily solved with the steel networks see: here) while don't present the inconvenience of frames or suitcases broken themselves when driving off-road or falling down.

Being able to be installed on the bike without the use of sidebars, also reduce the outsize, facilitating the passage in tight spots.In my experience I found that often thst MountainBike bags or backpacks are more strong than those for built for onroad motorbike use (I have not had chance yet to try saddlebags or bags for motorbike offroad use).

This type of bags, however, presents the problem of not having any kind of protection from the heat of the exhaust, which necessarily are positioned closer.

Let's see how obviate this drawback by the most economical possible.

-1 pezzo di vecchia camera d'aria rinforzata

REALIZZAZIONE - REALIZATION

Una volta acquistate le borse (questa volta testerò gli economicissimi zainetti militari in dotazione all'Esercito Italiano alla fine degli anni 90) e individuato il metodo migliore per l'ancoraggio sul veicolo, scegliete quale delle due borse starà a contatto col terminale di scarico (ovviamente in caso di terminale singolo).

Ponetelo sul piano di lavoro e tagliate la rete metallica in modo da poter avere un rettangolo grande quanto la parte della borsa che starà a contatto col terminale.

Once you buy the bags (this time I will test the cheap military backpacks of Italian Army of the late '90s) and identified the best method for anchoring on the vehicle, choose which of the two bags will stay in contact with the exhaust ( obviously in the case of single terminal).

Posizionate agli angoli della rete quattro flange di fissaggio e forate sia uno strato di feltro che le borse.

Dall'interno della borsa infilate nei fori così ottenuti i piedini da mobile, in modo che la parte gommata risulti all'interno della stessa. Questo per evitare che eventuali parti sporgenti danneggino il vostro bagaglio.

Position to net corners four fastening flanges and drill both a layer of felt that the bags.

Rivestite di alluminio adesivo la parte della striscia di feltro più lontana dalla borsa, poi ripiegatela in modo che l'estrtemità vada a combaciare con la rete metallica.

Ripiegate nuovamente fino a coprire la rete metallica e rivestite tutto con uno strato di alluminio adesivo per alte temperature.

Inserite all'interno della borsa il policarbonato piegato a L, in modo da dare una minima rigidità alla struttura e agevolare così la ricerca dei bagagli all'interno.

Potete spruzzare uno spray impermeabilizzante sulle parti esposte di feltro, in modo che un eventuale acquazzone non lo imbibisca del tutto, anche se comunque il vento e il caldo del terminale lo asciugherebbero in poco tempo.

You can spray a waterproofing spray on the exposed parts of the felt, so that a possible downpour not entirely impregnate, although in any case the wind and the heat of the exhaust will dry it in a short time.

Se non vi sentite tranquilli, con l'ausilio di:

2 profilati in alluminio a sezione tonda di circa 8mm di diametro

3 fasce stringitubi grandi  in acciaio inox

potete realizzare dei "distanziali" sul terminale così come ho fatte io.

you can achieve the "spacers" on the terminal as well as I have done myself.

Bulgaria

La Bulgaria è la vera novità dei Raid a lunga percorrenza in quest'area. Con i suoi 1.100Km offroad su 1.600Km totali, comprende da sola quasi la metà dell'intero viaggio.

Per questo motivo un sentito ringraziamento va all'Ing. Franco Castellini, Console Onorario della Repubblica di Bulgaria per la Regione Emilia-Romagna, per l'interesse dimostrato in questo modo di viaggiare: immersi in culture diverse, in luoghi per noi ancora sconosciuti.

Bulgaria is the real news of long distance Raids in this area. With its 1.100Km offroad of total 1.600Km, it includes its own almost half of the entire trip.For this reason, a heartfelt thanks go to Ing. Franco Castellini, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria for the Emilia-Romagna Region, for His interest in this way of traveling: surrounded in different cultures, in places still unknown for us.

Thanks to willingness of Alberto Zenic, manager of Mitas-Moto for Italy, during the Balkan Raid 2016 we will have the opportunity to try new Mitas Rally-Star E-12 and E-13, "designed for extreme motorcycle rally as Dakar".
